Shields - An alternative to Armor
Since everyone will be traveling around in spaceships in our TNN-ish game, Shields (as in energy shields, not like bucklers) would be a good alternative to Armor.
People could buy batteries to charge them, and they would take 3 (or more, depending) hits before evaporating.
If you didn't have your Shield active, you would start taking Hull damage. The Hull damage would be auto-repaired, at the cost of DP (Another way of saying, if your Shield isn't on, your DP gets hit).
If you have an opinion on this, post here.

Re: Shields - An alternative to Armor
I like how NI has made the classes mean something. That is, a giver or guide over there can take one hit per shield while a guardian can take three. This kind of idea gives meaning to the idea of classes; classes are no longer RP things that people use the have wars on the forums, now they affect the actual flow of the game and what one can do.
Also, to differ from the NI name, I vote we call them Shield Generators as the 'official' name for the site.

Sheilds vs Armor
I like the idea of "shields" replacing armor. As much as I hate to be politically correct, it would be easier to sell to a school type environment if we had some things that looked 'battle ready". If we think of this like a PC point scale (like GERTY's demerits) by calling armor some type of "shield" we get a demerit pass and can use it elsewhere (like the word gunfire-- right Mmage?!).
And I am just learning my way about NI's site-- but if NI calls them shields we need to give it another name.

Re: Shields - An alternative to Armor
Well u have a point there GiGI but theres a major difrance between shield (i would asume NI means the thing u carry) and shield generator (a big shield thing thats made of energy) so as long as we make that clear to people i think wer fine
bcus u know i must :bounce:

I am thinking that someone killed the bounce emoticon for blackblade9
On the other hand, maybe force field generator would sound better.

Or just a Force Field in general, calling it a generator implies it having something that it keeps running. So for instance a Shield is generated by a Shield generator. OoOOoo So the Force Field around our ship is maintained by the Force Field or Shield or Normal-Everyday-But-Quite-Sparkly Generator inside instead of calling it a hull.

Star Trek calls it 'screens' instead of shields. If this gets going, I think we should leave the name more or less open and try to get those who read a whole lot of science fiction to argue the point.

Brainstorming is easy:
For shields/screens/forcefields
Wallups (Wall Up! or pun on wallop)
Stoppers (also as in corks in a bottle)
Fence - needs a prefix
